What is kratom?
Kratom, known botanically as Mitragyna speciosa, is a tree native to Southeast Asia. The leaves of the tree are used worldwide as an herbal supplement with fascinating effects. The kratom tree belongs to the same family of plants as coffee, the Rubiaceae family. The name of the genus Mitragyna comes from the similarity of the shape of the plant's leaves to a bishop's hat (called Mitre).
Kratom is used primarily for its effects on the nervous system, which include: increased energy and concentration, reduction and relief of pain, help with insomnia, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Its therapeutic use has been documented for centuries in Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea and Thailand.
There are more than 40 alkaloids naturally present in Kratom that explain its medicinal properties. At low doses (from 3 grams), kratom produces stimulating effects accompanied by a feeling of well-being, at higher doses (from 5 to 10+ grams), the effects can be described as sedative, anxiolytic and highly analgesic. The effects are felt quickly after ingestion - the first effects usually occur in the first 10 minutes after ingestion.
Kratom use is expected to continue to spread throughout the United States and Latin America. So far there are already thousands of users who have reported having a better life after discovering kratom, many of whom have abandoned pharmaceutical drugs, which can have undesirable side effects, in favor of a natural solution.
Kratom must be taken orally. It can be mixed with water or the beverage of your choice. To avoid dust accumulation, it is preferable to use warm liquids and mix it vigorously.
The following are approximate doses for oral consumption of dry kratom powder:
Threshold: 1 to 2 grams
Mild: 2 to 4 grams
Common: 3 to 5 grams
Strong: 5 to 8 grams
Each individual reacts differently, so we recommend that if you are using kratom for the first time, start with a small dose and increase it as you feel comfortable.
Types of kratom
As a result of differences in growth regions, there are different strains of kratom. These are classified according to the colour of the veins and stems of the kratom leaves, and have different effects.
The green and white strains provide more stimulating effects, and are excellent for concentrating and increasing energy. On the other hand, the red strains are known for their relaxing effects, which help in the management of stress and anxiety, and the reduction of pain.
Many users like to have several strains on hand, to select the best one for each occasion. Alternating strains of different types can also help reduce the tolerance that can occur with frequent use.
Although kratom has an extremely high safety profile, there are some precautionary measures that users should take into account. These are:
Recommended dosage practice: It is best to start with a low dose and increase it gradually. New users should start with only 2-3 grams and wait 30 minutes to assess the effects before taking more. If after 30 minutes the desired effects have not been obtained, it is acceptable to take an additional 1-2 grams. Every individual is different, so some users naturally have higher or lower tolerance levels than others.
People taking certain psychiatric medications should consult their physician before taking kratom.
Pregnant women should consult their doctor before consuming kratom.
Frequent daily use can lead to increased tolerance to kratom. This tolerance is considered mild, similar to that developed with coffee, but should be taken into account.
Kratom should only be consumed orally.
We recommend not to mix kratom with other substances and/or alcohol.
Kratom has diuretic effects, so it releases water from the body and can cause dehydration. Therefore, it is important to watch for signs of dehydration and drink plenty of fluids to prevent it.
